Oscar winner Anne Hathaway has scored the role of the Grand High Witch in Robert Zemeckis’ new film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s “The Witches” at Warner Bros. Pictures.
Based on the 1973 novel, the story follows a seven-year-old boy who has a run-in with real-life witches. The work was previously adapted in 1990 with Anjelica Huston as the head witch. The new take shifts the locale and period of the story to the American Deep South and potentially the Jim Crow era.
Zemeckis helms, produces and pens the adaptation with Jack Rapke, Alfonso Cuaron and Guillermo del Toro also producing.
