Ang Lee (“Brokeback Mountain,” “The Ice Storm”) is in talks to direct the film version of Yann Martel’s Booker Prize-winning novel “Life of Pi” for Fox 2000 reports Variety.
The coming-of-age story revolves around a youth who is the lone survivor of a sunken freighter and winds up sharing a lifeboat with a hyena, an injured zebra, an orangutan and a hungry Bengal tiger.
Dean Georgaris, M. Night Shyamalan and Jean-Pierre Jeunet have previously been attached to the project during its development stage.
Lee will supervise a new script and the studio will hire a writer shortly. Gil Netter is producing.
