Andrew Niccol Confirmed For “The Host”

After some back and forth over his involvement, “Gattaca” and “Lord of War” writer/director Andrew Niccol has come onboard to direct “The Host”, Inferno Entertainment’s film adaptation of the bestselling novel by “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer reports Heat Vision.

Meyer’s novel is a love story set in the near future on Earth, which has been assimilated by an alien species of benevolent parasites that call themselves “Souls.” One such soul, the Wanderer, is fused with a dying human named Melanie Stryder (Saoirse Ronan), in an attempt to locate the last pocket of surviving humans on Earth.

Niccol penned the script and was originally set to be the director, but he seemed to drop out in recent months. Susanna White (“Generation Kill,” “Nanny McPhee Returns”) was attached to direct back in February but she too had to depart, paving the way for Niccol’s return.
