New Line is in negotiations to get behind a live-action “Astro Boy” film with “San Andreas” scribes Andre Fabrizio and Jeremy Passmore onboard to pen the script.
Animal Logic (“The Lego Movie”), Ranger 7 Films and Tezuka Prods. announced over a year ago that they were developing the project based on the classic 1980s anime and 1950s manga series. Zareh Nalbandian is slated to produce the film which is aiming to be a four-quadrant adventure film.
The story follows a young robot with incredible powers created by a brilliant scientist in the image of his dead son. Though a cartoon, the series famously dealt with some serious and very dark themes.
The feature follows in the wake of a kiddie-centric $65 million CG-animated film released by Imagi in 2009 which flopped badly, grossing just $40 million worldwide.
