Australian filmmaker Andrew Dominik (“Chopper,” “The Assassination of Jesse James”) has reportedly selected “Blade Runner 2049” actress Ana de Armas as his top choice to play Marilyn Monroe in his long-gestating adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates’ novel “Blonde” at Netflix and Plan B.
The story follows the talented Norma Jeane Mortenson as she blossoms into movie star Marilyn Monroe. But after a series of failed relationships and heartbreaking tragedy, she spirals into drug addiction and mental instability.
Collider broke the news that de Armas is in early talks but she does not have a closed deal yet, nor has the project itself been greenlit at this time by the streaming company. Even so, should it get the go-ahead then filming could begin this Summer.
Dominik wrote the script and will produce along with Brad Pitt and Dede Gardner. Naomi Watts and Jessica Chastain have previously been linked to the role in the past.
de Armas will soon be seen in Danny Boyle’s “Yesterday,” Rian Johnson’s “Knives Out” and Olivier Assayas’ “Wasp Network”.
