Along with being one of the year’s best films, “Logan” also serves as a breakout film for its youngest co-star Dafne Keen who plays Laura (aka. X-23). Something of a daughter and clone of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, there has been talk since the film’s release of the fierce young girl one day getting her own spin-off.
Today, the film’s director James Mangold has spoken with THR and indicated that they have been discussing continuing Laura’s story in a future film:
“We’re just working on a script…Patty [Jenkins’] success with [Wonder Woman] only solidifies more for studios that there’s less to fear with a female protagonist. The more that keeps getting hit home, that ends up giving me more space turning around and going, ‘Well here we are with a female protagonist. That’s incredible. And what are we going to do with her?’ And that’s where we are with that [the Laura script] right now, dreaming.”
In the same interview Jackman confirms he won’t be a producer or involved in the new film in any way but will be amongst the first to see it. Also he was asked about the possibility of someone taking over his role to which he replied: “I know someone will. I hope it will be recast.”
“Logan” ultimately grossed $616 million worldwide with 20th Century Fox recently launching an Oscar campaign for the movie. The focus will be on the possibility of nominations for Jackman and Patrick Stewart along with the film itself.
