A sequel to Al Gore’s 2006 climate change documentary “An Inconvenient Truth” is on the way and will have its premiere as the opening night of the Sundance Film Festival on January 19th.
No official title appears to have been set yet (“An Inescapable Truth” or “An Inevitable Truth” are my bets) which Paramount Pictures and Participant Media will release in cinemas next year. Directed by Bonni Cohen and Jon Shenk, the follow-up follows Gore as he continues his decades-long fight to build a more sustainable future for our planet.
In a statement on Friday, Gore says: “Now more than ever we must rededicate ourselves to solving the climate crisis. But we have reason to be hopeful; the solutions to the crisis are at hand. I’m deeply honored and grateful that Paramount Pictures and Participant Media have once again taken on the task of bringing the critical story of the climate crisis to the world.”
The first film grossed $49.8 million worldwide and took home two Oscars – best documentary feature and best original song.
