Amy Schumer is circling a true story gritty drama film about world champion boxer Christy Martin which has been set up at Voltage Pictures.
Katherine Fugate (“Valentine’s Day”) penned the script which follows West Virginia-born Christy Salters who rose up the ranks of her sport, despite every odd against her, and found success, but not true love until later in life.
Once she realized who she was personally, she decided to leave her abusive husband Jim Martin for a woman she fell in love with. She was then brutalized, shot and left for dead by the vengeful husband.
She was also the first woman to sign with Don King and rose to the top of her sport until 2003 when she was beaten by Laila Ali. Alix Madigan, Nicolas Chartier and Alissa Phillips will produce.
