In a statement released by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), comedian Bill Cosby and filmmaker Roman Polanski have both been expelled from the Academy following a vote by the board.
This comes shortly after the conviction of former sitcom legend Cosby on three counts of sexual assault against Andrea Constand, one of many alleging sexual misconduct and assault by Cosby against them over the past few decades.
Polanski, of course, was arrested and charged with five sexual abuse offenses against a thirteen-year-old girl in 1977, ultimately fleeing the country and living overseas ever since.
Back in October, it was announced that Harvey Weinstein was kicked out of the Academy. This led to speculation and questions as to why Cosby and Polanksi also weren’t on the chopping block at that time.
