The Weinstein Company and Dimension Films’ long on the shelf “Amityville: The Awakening” has been delayed again, this time by another eight months.
The Franck Khalfoun-directed revival of the haunted house franchise began life as a completely different ‘found footage’ take which was then scrapped. The current incarnation was shot in 2014 with plans for an early January 2015 release. It got pulled from the schedule, then pushed to April 1st this year.
With the sale of Miramax the other week, along with the results of some test screenings, the film will now open January 6th 2017. Both studio execs and producer Jason Blum reportedly got a look at the finished film and decided to post it in January in a period at the box-office that has been beneficial for horror features.
