AMC Replaces Xbox On “Humans” Series

AMC is nearing a deal to acquire domestic rights to “Humans,” the co-production drama series that was originally set to air on in the U.S. exclusively on Xbox.

The project is an English-language adaptation of the Swedish sci-fi drama “Real Humans” and Xbox and U.K. broadcaster Channel 4 were originally slated to produce the eight-episode remake from “Spooks” scribes Sam Vincent and Jonathan Brackley.

Kudos Entertainment (“Broadchurch”) is developing the project which is set in a parallel present where the latest must-have gadget are ‘Synths,’ highly-developed robotic servants eerily similar to humans. One strained suburban family purchases a refurbished synth, only to later learn the unexpected consequences of living life with a synthetic humanoid.

The project marked the first official scripted series green light for Xbox Entertainment Studios, a division that was then essentially shuttered two months ago and left this project in the lurch. AMC is now stepping in with things back on track and casting said to already be under way.
