Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt take on the voices of 1980s Romanian cop partners in “Comrade Detective,” the new upcoming Amazon Studios and A24 series which just released its trailer today.
The series presents the idea of what would happen if a pro-Communist Romanian police detective drama from the 1980s was unearthed today, dubbed over by Hollywood talent mostly guessing their way through the dialogue, and released – the result is a downright odd but fun comedy which boasts a stunning voiceover cast on top of a trippy period drama shot.
Along with Tatum & Gordon-Levitt, there’s Mahershala Ali, Nick Offerman, Jenny Slate, Fred Armisen, Chloë Sevigny, Jake Johnson, Jason Mantzoukas, Kim Basinger, Tracey Letts, Bobby Cannavale, Richard Jenkins, Debra Winger, Mark Duplass, Katie Aselton Duplass, Jerrod Carmichael, Bo Burnam, and John Early all popping up to voice over various on screen characters. Florin Piersic Jr. and Corneliu Ulici lead a cast of European actors who star in the scenes of the faux 1980s series.
“Comrade Detective” premieres on Amazon on August 4th.
