Amazon has ordered two twelve-episode seasons of the adult animated series “Critical Role: The Legend of Vox Machina” based on the adventures and original characters from digital media brand Critical Role.
The series follows a group of second-rate, drunken adventurers on a quest to save the realm from terrifying monsters and dark magical forces, only to discover they become a found family in the process. Laura Bailey, Taliesin Jaffe, Ashley Johnson, Liam O’Brien, Matthew Mercer, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel, and Travis Willingham star.
“The Legend of Vox Machina” was launched earlier this year as a Kickstarter campaign for a 22-minute animated special. They reached their funding goal within minutes and it soon became the most-funded TV, film or animated project in Kickstarter history with over $11.3 million raised – enough to fund a ten-episode season.
Building on that fan-based support, Amazon ordered an additional fourteen episodes, for a total of twenty-four episodes across two seasons to stream exclusively on the service. Additionally, Amazon’s live-streaming service Twitch and Critical Role have closed a first-look deal to develop new series to premiere exclusively on Prime Video.
Also today, Amazon has picked up global rights to “Narcos vs Zombies,” an eight-episode Mexican TV production about an army of the undead along the U.S.-Mexico border colliding with drug lords and the American military.
Nicolas Entel and Miguel Tejada Flores created and pen the series which stars Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Fatima Molina, Horacio García Rojas, Nery Arredondo and Adria Morales.
