Amazon has announced the lineup for its next pilot season with only two hourlong dramas making the cut, the rest being children’s series.
The first is “The Interestings,” an adaptation of Meg Wolitzer’s bestselling novel. Lauren Ambrose leads the cast while Mike Newell directed the pilot about a group of artistic teenagers who meet at summer camp in 1974. As they transition into adulthood, their friendships are tested by tragedy, success, failure and secrecy. David Krumholtz, Jessica Pare, Matt Barr and Gabriel Ebert also star.
The other is “The Last Tycoon” from “Shattered Glass” writer/director Billy Ray. An adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s last work, Kelsey Grammer, Matt Bomer and Lily Collins star in the Depression-era story of a Hollywood Golden Boy who battles his mentor and boss for the soul of their studio.
Both will be available in 4K Ultra HD and HDR and will debut on June 17th on Amazon Video in the U.S., UK, Germany, Austria and Japan. Amazon’s development process gives all customers an opportunity to stream and review pilots in order to help choose the next Amazon Original Series that are then available to Prime Members.
The most notable of the kids show pilots is “Sigmund and the Sea Monsters,” a new live-action show from Sid & Marty Krofft based on the classic 1970s Saturday morning series. Others are animated shows like “Little Big Awesome,” “Morris and the Cow,” “Toasty Tales,” “The Curious Kitty and Friends” and “Jazz Duck”.
