Amazon is set to challenge Netflix for global domination with the announcement of plans today to make its Amazon Prime streaming video service available worldwide – ready to launch in more than two hundred countries in December.
Until now, Amazon’s streaming video service has mostly been a nice add-on to sweeten the deal on its Prime subscription plan, which grants customers quicker shipping and other benefits for a recurring fee.
This will include their high profile racing series “The Grand Tour,” hosted by the former hosts of UK’s “Top Gear,” which will be available exclusively through the service and launches in the US, UK, Germany and Japan from today.
Amazon also reportedly intends to invest in producing exclusive original content and also licenses shows and movies from global studios and distributors.
