Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television Studios are reportedly developing a half-hour comedy TV series based on Penny Marshall’s 1992 feature “A League of Their Own”. However, this will reportedly boast a “contemporary spin” on the stories of the women surrounding the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.
The show will begin with the formation of the league in 1943 and follows the Rockford Peaches, season to season as they struggle to keep the team alive through close games, injuries, late night bar crawls, sexual awakenings and road trips across a rapidly changing United States. The series will also dive deeper into the issues facing the country at the time.
Will Graham (“Mozart in the Jungle”) and Abbi Jacobson (“Broad City”) will co-write and executive produce. Tom Hanks, Geena Davis, Madonna, Lori Petty, Jon Lovitz, David Strathairn, Garry Marshall, and Bill Pullman all starred in the original movie.
