Amazon has picked up a thirteen episode documentary series chronicling the life of Playboy founder Hugh Hefner. The plan is to debut the project next year.
Drawing from 17,000-plus hours of archival footage, “American Playboy: The Hugh Hefner Story” promises to include ‘never-before-told’ stories via first-person interviews with Hefner about his personal life, social-justice crusades and lifestyle brand.
The docu-series starts with Hefner’s life in post-World War II America, through the launch of Playboy magazine in 1953 and the subsequent six decades. There’s also details of Hefner’s fights to defend the First Amendment, abortion rights and same-sex marriage.
The Stephen David-produced series will premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in the U.S., U.K., Germany, Austria and Japan.
