Amazon In Talks With Studios For New Films

Amazon is reportedly holding exploratory talks with major Hollywood studios about creating films for its streaming service according to Bloomberg (via Deadline).

So far Paramount and Sony are the only ones to have been revealed to have had preliminary discussions with the shopping & streaming giant, though others are possible, and no agreements have been reached. One thing that is interesting is Amazon is said to be looking at exploiting existing studio IP, not unlike what Netflix did earlier this year with “The Cloverfield Paradox”.

As streaming services expand in size, traditional media rivals like Fox & Disney consolidate, and major tech companies like Apple wait in the wings with plans for their own services, the smaller studios are said to be weighing their options and pulling back on licensing agreements to more directly exploit VOD & SVOD markets. How this will impact future studio slates is unclear.
