Amazon has officially announced that it has greenlit the Amazon Original series “Lore,” an unscripted horror anthology based on the popular podcast of the same name.
Created by Aaron Mahnke, the podcast has more than two million listeners each month tuning in for the fact-based tales that are brought to life via heavily researched eyewitness accounts, documented stories and historical events.
Launched a year ago, over thirty instalments explored the true origins of pop culture’s most legendary horror characters and myths such as vampires, zombies, werewolves, ghosts, serial killers and witches.
The series will offer a blend of narration, historical mixed media and cinematically shot scripted scenes featuring top talent. Like Netflix’s “Black Mirror,” the anthology nature is episode to episode, meaning each will feature a new lore.
Propagate Content and Valhalla Entertainment will shop the series to broadcast and cable outlets. Mahnke, Gale Anne Hurd, Ben Silverman, Howard T. Owens, and Brett-Patrick Jenkins will executive produce. Glen Morgan (“The X-Files”) is attached as showrunner.
The ten-episode season will premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in the US, UK, Germany, Austria and Japan in 2017.
