Amazon Considering Kindle TV Set-Top Box

Amazon is planning a television set-top box for Internet video streaming, joining an increasingly popular market segment currently dominated by the likes of Apple TV, Roku, Boxee, WDTV and more recently Google TV.

A Fall release is planned for the device which will give users access to Amazon’s expanding video offerings including its VOD store and Instant Video service. No word as yet regarding what alternate services will be available on the device such as Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, YouTube, Vimeo or HBO Go.

How successful such a device will be remains to be seen as many of these competing set-top devices, not to mention many of today’s game consoles and Smart TVs, already give users access to Amazon’s video catalog.
