Almost Human Opens To Mixed Numbers

Fox’s “Almost Human,” the latest TV series from producer J.J. Abrams, has gotten off to a rocky start.

The buddy-cop drama where one cop (Karl Urban) is a human, the other (Michael Ealy) is an android, pulled in an impressive 3.1 rating and 9.1 million total viewers for its debut episode on Sunday night.

That’s a very healthy number, Fox’s highest-rated drama opener in adults 18-34 in six years. It’s also the third drama premiere in a row for Fox with a 3+ rating, the first two being “The Following” and “Sleepy Hollow”.

The next night however, the second episode debuted in the show’s regular 8pm Monday night slot. There it came fourth for the hour with a 2.2 rating and 6.6 million viewers, a dramatic drop-off from the premiere just one day before.

Compare that with “Sleepy Hollow” which aired immediately after at 9pm. That show’s eighth episode last night came second in its timeslot and managed a 2.5 rating and 7.1 million viewers.

These days, the verdict is out until DVR usage is taken into account with Live+3 and Live+7 figures added in. Those figures are expected to give ‘Human’ a large boost.
