One of the most talked about stories of the past day or two has been filmmaker Neill Blomkamp’s comments in an interview about his upcoming “Alien” film sequel.
Blomkamp’s concept art from back in January indicated that his film would be a direct follow-up to 1986’s “Aliens” and would appear to ignore the events of both “Alien 3” and “Alien Resurrection”. This week Blomkamp essentially confirmed that.
Now though, the “Chappie” helmer says that though a follow-up to “Aliens” the new movie will not “undo” those other two films. He tells Allocine:
“My favorites are the first two movies, so I want to make a film that’s connected to Alien and Aliens. That’s my goal. I’m not trying to undo Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection, I just want it to be connected to Alien 1 and 2.”
How exactly this will take place is unclear. Sigourney Weaver says Blomkamp had a LOT more concept art illustrations that he didn’t post online, but the story is still being develop so she can’t share too many details:
“It’s something we’re just now beginning to flesh out, and I’m afraid the public will have to wait, but it will be very organic. I’m looking forward to being with her again. She’s a very interesting character, and I always thought it was a great privilege to play her.”
