Following a star turn in “Ex Machina” and roles in the likes of “The Man from UNCLE,” “Burnt” and “The Danish Girl,” actress Alicia Vikander is now being rumored to take on one of the most iconic female characters of the past decade – Lisbeth Salander.
As reported earlier, Sony is planning to reboot “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” franchise – skipping ahead to David Lagercrantz’s fourth book “The Girl in the Spider’s Web” before coming back to the late Stieg Larsson’s second and third novels which are connected. As a result, those involved in the first film like Rooney Mara, Daniel Craig and director David Fincher aren’t involved.
Oscar-nominated writer Steven Knight (“Locke”) is in negotiations to adapt ‘Web’ for the studio which aims to be produced at a rate well under the $90 million budget of Fincher’s film. Scott Rudin and Amy Pascal, who are producing the new film, are reportedly big fans of Vikander. The actress certainly has the stature for the part and could make the transition a fairly smooth one.
