Alexandra Maria Lara Joins Howard’s “Rush”

German actress Alexandra Maria Lara (“Downfall,” “The Reader”) has scored the lead female role in Ron Howard’s “Rush” at Cross Creek Pictures, Working Title and Imagine reports Variety.

Peter Morgan’s script follows the rivalry between Austrian racer Niki Lauda and British racer James Hunt on the Formula One circuit in the 70’s. Lauda nearly died in a fiery crash in 1976 but returned to the track just six weeks later to race Hunt.

Chris Hemsworth has already been cast at Hunt, Daniel Bruhl as Lauda. Howard, Brian Grazer, Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Brian Oliver will produce.
