With his upcoming George Clooney-led project “The Descendants” in the can, filmmaker Alexander Payne (“Sideways,” “About Schmidt”) is moving on to his next effort – “Nebraska” at Paramount Pictures.
Payne tells The Playlist that the story follows an aging alcoholic dad who is convinced he’s won a million dollar prize though his family refuse to believe it.
He sets out on a long trip from Montana to Nebraska to claim his alleged winnings with the help of his troubled, estranged twenty-something son. The pair confront their various issues and ultimately bond.
Payne is currently re-writing Robert Nelson’s original script with the help of Phil Johnston (“Cedar Rapids”). Ron Yerxa is producing and Payne aims to kick off shooting later this year.
