Australian actor Alex Russell (“Chronicle,” “Carrie”) has booked a major series regular role opposite Shemar Moore in the CBS drama pilot “S.W.A.T.” based on the classic 1970s series and its subsequent 2003 film adaptation.
The intense, action-packed procedural follows a locally born and bred S.W.A.T. lieutenant, Daniel ‘Hondo’ Harrelson (Moore) who is tasked to run a highly-trained unit that is the last stop for solving crimes in Los Angeles.
Russell will play Jim Street, a cocky loose cannon and the newest member of the team. Moore and Russell take on the roles played by Samuel L. Jackson and Colin Farrell respectively in the 2003 film.
“The Shield” creator Shawn Ryan, “Fast Five” director Justin Lin, action film producer Neal H. Moritz, and Aaron Rahsaan Thomas all executive produce the series. Lin will helm the pilot from a script by Thomas.
