“Haml3t”, a planned contemporary musical adaptation of the classic Shakespeare tale that was to be directed by Catherine Hardwicke (“Twilight,” “Thir13en”) and star Emile Hirsch, will probably not be happening reports The Playlist.
A source for the site tells them that the film “has fallen apart and moreover, doesn’t appear likely to get made anytime soon”. Reasons for this are unclear, but it seems that even if it foes go forward, the previous incarnation will likely not get made.
In that interpretation, Hirsch would’ve played Hamlet as a student and aspiring rock star at a liberal-arts college who tries to express himself through music. Hardwicke is currently at work on her retelling of the classic fairy tale “The Girl With The Red Riding Hood”.
