Alan Tudyk has been announced as the voice of Iago, the wise-cracking parrot sidekick to the villain Jafar (Marwan Kenzari), in Guy Ritchie’s live-action “Aladdin” film from Disney Pictures.
Though several trailers have been released with Iago flying around, the character hasn’t spoken in any of the clips. Gilbert Gottfried memorably voiced the character in the 1992 Disney animated feature film and in two direct-to-video sequels.
“Firefly” star Tudyk has done a ton of voice work over the years from K-2SO in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” to KnowsMore in “Ralph Breaks the Internet,” Heihei in “Moana,” Sonny in “I, Robot” and Green Arrow in “Young Justice” among many dozens of others.
The announcement comes hot on the heels of the reveal of the film’s new trailer earlier this morning. “Aladdin” is due in theaters on May 24th.
