Producer Jason Blum (“Get Out,” “Split”) used the Overlook Film Festival last night to announce that Akiva Goldsman is set to direct a new adaptation of Stephen King’s “Firestarter” for his Blumhouse Pictures.
Drew Barrymore starred in the original 1984 film adaptation of King’s 1981 novel as a young girl who developed pyrokinetic abilities. She was then abducted by a secret government agency that wanted to harness her powerful gift as a weapon.
Goldsman will also co-write the film with “Rectify” scribe Scott Teems, a script which is expected to be more faithful than the previous film adaptation. Blum will produce.
