AFI Names Top Movies, TV Shows For 2016

The American Film Institute has picked its ten best movies and TV shows of the year. As usual there’s no ranking, these are presented in alphabetical order and are works that AFI’s juries have determined advance the art of the moving image and enhance America’s cultural heritage.

AFI has also handed out a special award to “O.J.: Made in America,” the nearly eight-hour-long documentary that aired on TV. The honorees will be recognized at a luncheon on January 6th.

AFI Movies of the Year: “Arrival,” “Fences,” “Hacksaw Ridge,” “Hell or High Water,” “La La Land,” “Manchester by the Sea,” “Moonlight,” “Silence,” “Sully,” “Zootopia”

AFI TV Programs of the Year: “The Americans,” “Atlanta,” “Better Call Saul,” “The Crown,” “Game of Thrones,” “The Night Of,” “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story,” “Stranger Things,” “This is Us,” “Veep”

AFI Special Award: “O.J.: Made in America”
