Warner Bros. Pictures has officially confirmed that a standalone “Batman” movie is in development with Ben Affleck both set to star and direct.
The announcement came during the studio’s panel at CinemaCon in Las Vegas today. Warners CEO Kevin Tsujihara said “we’re excited to be working with Ben Affleck on a standalone Batman film” and later clarified that Affleck is set to direct.
Affleck and Geoff Johns are working on a script with rumor being that an early draft has already been handed in. Ten films based on DC Comics titles are planned over the next five years with filming on the first of the “Justice League” films kicking off this week in London.
Warners has already set aside October 5th 2018 and November 1st 2019 release dates for Marvel films – one of them likely to be the Batman solo film. Affleck is also in post-production on his new film “Live by Night” which is set for release in October 2017.
