A&E Sets “Damien” Premiere, Gyllenhaal Series

A&E Network made several announcements today as part of the TV Critics Association winter press tour. First up, they announced that the fourth season of “Bates Motel” will premiere March 7th at 9pm and will be immediately followed by the premiere of their “Omen” sequel series “Damien” at 10pm.

There’s also a new trailer for “Damien” which you can see below. Showrunner Glen Mazzara says they are currently working on something for the mobile device space that would deal with the backstory between the end of the original “The Omen” and the new series in which Thorne is a 30-year-old man:

The network also announced that Nine Stories Productions and A+E Studios (“UnREAL”) and actor Jake Gyllenhaal are partnering to develop a new anthology series exploring the world of a different major American cult persona and the provocative nature of belief each season.

Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker (“Beasts of No Nation”) will executive produce the project with the inaugural season focusing on the notorious story of Jim Jones and his cult The Peoples Temple of the Disciples of Christ.

The series would chronicle Jones’ path from social leader and passionate integrationist who, as his mental health unraveled, became a deranged spiritual dictator to followers committed to his dangerous philosophy of faith and ultimately saw more than 900 people dying in a mass suicide organized by Jones.
