“Fatal Attraction,” “Indecent Proposal” and “9 1/2 Weeks” director Adrian Lyne is lining up what is set to be his first directorial effort in nearly two decades with the erotic thriller “Deep Water” at New Regency and Fox.
Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas (“Blade Runner 2049”) are circling to star in the project which is based on the novel by celebrated author Patricia Highsmith whose works have led to such famous films as “The Talented Mr. Ripley,” “Carol” and “Strangers on a Train”.
The actors would play Vic and Melinda Van Allen, an attractive married couple whose mind games with each other take a twisted turn when people around them start turning up dead. They stave off divorce in a loveless marriage by allowing each to take lovers, but it becomes messy as exposes the surface facade of American suburban life.
Lyne, who last helmed 2002’s “Unfaithful” and whose other works include “Flashdance” and “Jacob’s Ladder,” is eyeing a November production start. Zack Helm (“Stranger Than Fiction”) and Sam Levinson (“Euphoria”) have adapted the script while Arnon Milchan, Guymon Casady, Anthony Katagas, Ben Forkner, Garrett Basch and Steven Zaillian are producing.
