Amy Adams is in negotiations to join Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale in “The Fighter” for Relativity Media and Paramount Pictures reports the trades.
The story revolves around the life of boxer “Irish” Mickey Ward (Wahlberg) and trainer-brother Dick Eklund (Bale), chronicling their early days on the rough streets of Lowell, Massachusetts, through Eklund’s battle with drugs and Ward’s eventual world championship in London.
Adams will play Charlene, a gritty bartender and former college high-jumper from Massachusetts who ends up dating Mickey. Melissa Leo previously joined the cast as Wahlberg and Bale’s mother.
Filming, under the helm of David O. Russell (“Three Kings”) begins next month in Lowell.
