“Accountant” Thrills, “Max Steel” Bombs At Box-Office

Ben Affleck’s action-thriller “The Accountant” took in $9.1 million on Friday and is set to top the weekend box-office with estimates of a solid $25 million haul, about on par with last week’s “The Girl on the Train” which opened with $24.5 million.

Early estimates for the $40 million-budget film had it at a $18-20 million opening so that’s a good result for the project. While aggregate review scores were mixed, what has been surprising is that the reviews have been wildly divided with some very seasoned critics on either side of the love-hate divide.

Also opening this weekend is the comedy concert movie “Kevin Hart: What Now?” which is headed for a very respectable $12.4 million and is also over perfoming. On the flipside the young-skewing sci-fi adventure “Max Steel” opened wide and is an utter bomb, with what’s looking to be a $2 million (at best) gross for the entire weekend.
