The Stana Katic-led series “Absentia” has been picked up for a third season by Amazon, and along with the renewal comes some personnel changes as Geoff Bell and Josette Simon are joining the cast and Will Pascoe (“Orphan Black”) has been tapped as executive producer and showrunner.
Katic plays FBI agent Emily Byrne and the new season opens three months later with Emily nearing the end of her suspension. Everything is upended when one of Nick Durand’s (Patrick Heusinger) criminal cases hits too close to home and threatens the lives of the family Emily is desperately trying to hold together.
Next, Showtime has renewed its Kirsten Dunst-led comedy series “On Becoming a God in Central Florida” for a second season. Dunst stars as Krystal Stubbs, a minimum-wage water park employee in 1990s Florida who lies, schemes and cons her way up the ranks of the cultish, flag-waving, multibillion-dollar pyramid scheme that drove her to ruin in the first place.
Not all the news is good today though as BET’s legal drama “In Contempt,” starring Erica Ash, has been cancelled and won’t be renewed for a second season. That show was set in a legal aid office in New York City in which opinionated and wildly outspoken attorney Gwen (Ash) contended with complicated cases and office distractions.
