Abrams On Why He’s Now Writing “Star Wars”

J.J. Abrams made headlines last month when it was revealed that he and Lawrence Kasdan were taking over screenwriting duties on “Star Wars: Episode VII,” effectively replacing Michael Arndt who had been at work on the film for some time.

Out doing promotion for the TV series “Almost Human” this week, Abrams addressed the change during a media call saying that Disney’s mandated 2015 release date was the main reason for the scribe switch:

“It became clear that given the timeframe, and given the process, and the way the thing was going that working with Larry in this way was going to get us where we need to be and when we needed to be.”

That said, he’s quick to praise Arndt’s work on the project up until that point, and that he could contribute to another “Star Wars” film in the future:

“Working with Michael was a wonderful experience and I couldn’t be a bigger fan of his or adore him more.”
