ABC’s “Once Upon” Plans “Frozen” Tie-In

Sunday night’s third season finale of ABC’s “Once Upon a Time” included a surprise cameo at the very end. Disney’s take on the Snow Queen – the character of Elsa from their Oscar-winning animation juggernaut “Frozen” – is coming to the town of Storybrooke.

This live-action take on the role hasn’t been cast yet, the cameo utilising a trick seen on TV before like the reveal of Sydney Bristow’s mother in “Alias” or Michonne in “The Walking Dead” – shooting the character in a way they can cast whom they like next season as long as it matches a general shape.

Speaking with TV Line, showrunners Adam Horowitz and Adam Kitsis say they were the ones that went to Disney with the idea.

Kitsis says: “What’s funny is that people think Disney called us up and was like, ‘You need to do Frozen,’ and it’s really actually quite hard to get these characters. It’s not like they call you up and say, ‘We’d like you to do this.’ It’s actually quite the opposite. You have to work at it and have a vision and the spirit.”

Horowitz adds: “Look, we had an idea for how we wanted to approach this story, and we are very well aware of how beloved the movie is, so we’re very careful that we want to tell a story that is uniquely ours but also honors that movie and those characters that everyone fell in love with this past year.”
