ABC Plans “Muppets” Variety Series Reboot

The Muppets are returning home – to television. ABC is reportedly developing a reboot of “The Muppet Show” with a pilot slated to be shot this month according to TV Line.

“The Big Bang Theory” creator Bill Prady and Bob Kushell (“Third Rock From the Sun”) will write and executive produce the reboot, the latter also serves as show runner, while Randall Einhorn will direct the pilot and produce.

Currently going by the working title of “Muppets 2015,” there’s already a synopsis: “The Muppets excitedly gather at ABC for a meeting about the new Muppet Show. However, the show will not move forward unless Miss Piggy signs on.”

There’s also talk that the series will be set behind the scenes of a late-night talk show. The original “The Muppet Show” ran between 1976 and 1981.
