It was ABC’s turn at the Television Critics Association press tour yesterday with news about various renewals and series orders.
The biggest news was that long-running sitcom “Modern Family” has been renewed for an eleventh and final season. Other announced renewals include: “The Good Doctor” (for Season 3), “A Million Little Things” (for Season 2), “Shark Tank” (for Season 11) and “Bachelor in Paradise” (for Season 6).
The network has also abandoned its pilot order for a new Marvel drama from “Wonder Woman” writer Allan Heinberg which followed a female character with superpowers. It’s uncertain if the project will be re-developed.
ABC chief Karey Burke says she’d be interested in a “Lost” revival/reboot but nothing for such a project is in the works. She’s also not worried about the upcoming Oscars going host-less as she says all the talk about the Oscars this year means it’s still in the conversation and will be interesting no matter what.
ABC’s Freeform channel also made some key announcements, the biggest being the second season of “Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger” being set for an April 4th premiere. A few days later, “The Bold Type” kicks off its third season on April 9th.
Female-targeted comedies “Good Trouble” and “grown-ish” have both been picked up for additional seasons (second and third respectively), while Jordin Sparks, Matt Shively and Brooks Brantly will lead the new comedy series “Besties”. Finally, the first trailer is out for the new spin-off series “Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists” which premieres March 20th.
