ABC Chief Talks “Jetsons,” “Hero” Revivals

Speaking with reporters after the network’s TV upfront presentation, ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey talked about their upcoming pilot slate and confirmed two long in the works TV show reboots are still happening.

Dungey confirms to Slashfilm that they’re still developing a reboot of the classic 1980s superhero comedy series “The Greatest American Hero” with this incarnation starring an Indian American woman. “Fresh off the Boat” showrunner Nahnatchka Khan is behind that project.

The other is a live-action sitcom based on the animated series “The Jetsons” with filmmaker Robert Zemeckis. Though filmed in front of a live studio audience, Dungey believes plans are to incorporate futuristic visual effects:

“That is what I’m really looking forward to hearing. The team has already had a number of conversations with Zemeckis and the rest of the group. They have some really good ideas about how they want to pull that off. I have not yet been part of those conversations because I haven’t seen the script yet. They don’t want to tell me how that works until I’ve read the pages.”

Neither project has a potential air date at this time due to neither having been cast let alone gone into production.
