Rising young actor Christopher Abbott (“The Sinner,” “Girls,” “First Man”) has been set as the lead in the George Clooney-directed “Catch-22” limited series for Hulu, Anonymous Content and Paramount Television.
Based on the iconic Joseph Heller novel and adapted for the screen by Luke Davies and David Michod, the story is set in Italy during World War II. Abbott plays a U.S. Air Force bombardier furious because an arcane and subversive bureaucratic rule won’t allow him to leave the service.
Clooney will play Colonel Cathcart, and will direct the series alongside collaborator Grant Heslov. Both will executive produce alongside Davies and Michod. Alan Arkin played the role in the 1970 Mike Nichols-directed film adaptation.
