“Mad Max: Fury Road” and “Gods of Egypt” star Abbey Lee has entered talks to join the cast of the film adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Dark Tower” fantasy novel series at Sony Pictures and MRC.
Lee would play the role of Tirana opposite Idris Elba as Roland Deschain and Matthew McConaughey as Randall Flag.
Although the outlet notes that Tirana is the film’s female lead, the news may come as a surprise to fans of the books. The only Tirana that appears in the series of novels plays a relatively small role in the series’ seventh book.
Nikolaj Arcel (the Swedish “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”) directs the film with Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner having written the screenplay based primarily on the first book in the seven-volume series.
Ron Howard, Brian Grazer and Erica Huggins will produce. A tie-in television series has been in development simultaneously and the first film is currently targeting a January 13th 2017 release.
