Palestinian actor Hiam Abbas (“The Visitor”) has landed the lead role in “Miral”, the new Hind Husseini biopic from acclaimed director Julian Schnabel (“The Diving Bell and the Butterfly”) reports Variety.
An adaptation of Rula Jebreal’s non-fiction book, it follows Hind Husseini who started the Dar Al-Tifl orphanage in Jerusalem in 1948 when Palestine was partitioned and the state of Israel was formed.
The film’s events will start in 1948 and end with Husseini’s death in 1994. The screenplay is already complete with everything else currently coming together.
The director plans to shoot the movie entirely in Israel and the Palestinian territories starting from April 19th. Jon Kilik will produce.
