A couple of small updates in regards to Rian Johnson’s “Star Wars: Episode VIII” today starting with comments from actor Oscar Isaac who has been talking up the filmmaker’s vision for the new film.
Screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan said a few months back that Rian’s work is “not going be like anything that’s ever been in ‘Star Wars’,” Isaac agrees with that assessment, telling The Los Angeles Times:
“I would agree with [Kasdan]. Rian is definitely going to places and investigating things that haven’t really been done in the ‘Star Wars’ universe. For me, it’s so fun getting to explore different things that I wouldn’t have expected in this universe. In some ways it feels like we’re making an independent film. Certain things we get to play with – this kind of intimacy that we get to find – it’s special. It’s been really fun.”
Poe Dameron’s pal BB-8 will also be coming back for the new film, and the pair have recorded a new ‘Force for Change’ charity video which you can see below:
Next up comes word that British royalty, including Princes William and Harry, recently visited the set at Pinewood Studios. Cast members Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Mark Hamill showed them around and photos taken during that visit have hit social media.
The shots confirm that the iconic A-Wing Fighter ship from the original “Star Wars” trilogy will be used in the new film, albeit slightly evolved versions of them. Production on the film has been underway since February and is expected to continue for a while longer ahead of a December 15th 2017 release.
