With the first film taking in $91 million and the sequel a further $110 million, all on a combined budget of $12 million, it’s no surprise Universal Pictures is readying another entry in “The Purge” series.
The studio, along with Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes, have begun development on a third installment of the series. James DeMonaco penned and directed the first two films and will write the third with an eye to direct.
The general concept remains the same – one night of the year, all crime (including murder) is legal and terrible things happen. Which aspect of the event the new film will cover is unknown.
Sebastian Lemercier, Jason Blum, Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form will produce.
