A Third Nutty Professor Planned

Universal and Imagine Entertainment have begun development of a new “Nutty Professor” movie, the third in the series that began with the 1996 remake of the 1963 Jerry Lewis classic says The Hollywood Reporter.

The previous sequel, “The Nutty Professor 2: The Klumps”, opened in 2000. The films dealt with Sherman Klump, a portly, gentle scientist (Eddie Murphy) who turns obnoxious after trying one of his own cures.

Eddie Murphy famously played both the title character and all the members of his extended family. Murphy is not attached at present and his involvement would be contingent on the writer, director and other elements.

An open call is now out to writers for the project.
