The Slender Man, the mysterious and haunting online meme, is now getting a feature film with Screen Gems developing a project which is targeting a 2017 release.
The character began in a forum where a mythos was quickly built around him – leading to fan art, video games, a mini-series and more about the tall, faceless character who preys mostly on children.
Things turned nasty though when two twelve-year-old girls attempted to murder a friend of theirs as they claimed they wanted to pay ‘homage’ to Slender Man who they thought was real. The victim survived but had nineteen stab wounds.
David Birke (“Elle,” “13 Sins”) is penning the script for the film which begins shooting later this year.
