Sony’s Stage 6 Films is working on a sequel to 2018’s acclaimed breakout genre thriller “Searching” which starred John Cho and Debra Messing.
The entire film unfolds on a computer desktop and deals with a father, accustomed to parenting through online means, realising his daughter has gone missing. He uses the laptop she left behind to locate clues to find her before it is too late.
Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions bought the film at Sundance last year for $5 million in a world rights deal and watched it go on to gross $75 million worldwide. Aneesh Chaganty helmed the feature and co-wrote with Sev Ohanian while Timur Bekmambetov produced.
The original creative team is reuniting for the follow-up which is expected to boast a new story and cast.
