A Remake Of “Beaches” Is On The Way

Lifetime has given the green light for a contemporary remake of Garry Marshall’s famed 1988 feature “Beaches” with Broadway and “Frozen” star Idina Menzel toplining the film in the role originated by Bette Midler.

Menzel’s CC is an aspiring singer trying to make it in Los Angeles. Hillary, played by Barbara Hershey in the original and yet to be cast in the remake, is the daughter of a prominent civil rights lawyer who struggles to find her own destiny.

Menzel will take on the iconic songs “Wind Beneath My Wings” and “The Glory of Love” along with additional songs. Allison Anders (“Ring of Fire”) will direct from a script by Bart Barker and Nikole Beckwith. Denise Di Novi and Alison Greenspan will produce the film which begins shooting August 15th and is targeting a 2017 premiere.
